Talea is derived from a latin orgin, which is the root of the english word tally.

Tally is a mark made to register a certain number of items, as four consecutive vertical lines with a diagonal line through them to indicate a group of five.

It is also an account or reckoning; a record of debit and credit, of the score of a game, or the like. This is the root of tally stick, which a stick of wood with notches cut to indicate the amount of a debt or payment.

For this reason, the precision of the cut is vital, as is the reputation of the people cutting.
